Women Representation in arts: Mexico 1920–1940

The history of art consists of centuries of creation at the hands of male artists. This does not mean that there were no women who painted, drew, wrote or created music, but that those who were involved in artistic activities have not been openly recognized in the history of art, by being hidden after an imposed anonymity, or even by the exclusion of their creations from the term “work of art”, by considering that their talents had a status of “craft” or decoration rather than “fine art”.

The common thread in the work of Marshall Berman, Zygmunt Bauman and Gilles Lipovetsky is modernity, a concept that is also of great relevance in my thesis for my Master's degree in Habitat Sciences. By analyzing the way in which women were represented by men in visual art in Mexico in the first half of the twentieth century, and comparing it with the way they represented themselves, modernity is a basic concept, forms a relevant part of the global social context and also acting as a driver of change.

Semiotic analysis is an interdisciplinary tool of interpretation through signs and their context related to semantics and philosophy of language. In this text I carry out a semiotic analysis of the main character of "Stranger than Fiction", focusing on the presentation and development of his personality."​​

I´m not sure who started all this trend, I could easily say it was Lady Gaga, but it would be unfair for Marilyn Manson. What trend? you may ask, I´m talking about spandex, men in uniform,suits alla Evita Perón in naughty version, lace, pin up make up, dominatrix mood,weapons, and many sexual innuendos -some much more aggressive than the others...

Some of you might say that Costa Rica, Cuba, Jamaica or Dubai have breathtaking views, beautiful white sand and perfect beaches with clear and calm waters in an amazing shade just like Holbox right?... and you are absolutely right, but those are not the only reasons why I this Mexican Island is very special for me...

First story

It was May, I was at the mall to watch a movie with my girlfriends. We had plenty of time as it was time for the show. We entered Fabricas de Francia - a Mexican chain of department stores- I wasn't looking for anything specific but to kill time. When by chance I saw you. Molto bravo e bello! I felt so much tenderness and joy when I saw you that I decided to approach you. Other people were coming and going around, but you saw me. I didn't know how but I knew you would be in my life. You never needed words, with those beautiful eyes you could say everything...
